Drivers keep the whole fare.

Open the app, set where you are going, and the fare for every vehicle class appears side by side. Choose a tuk, bike, car or truck and the nearest driver of that class is offered the trip first. You watch them come to you on the map and pay in cash or from your Gamana wallet at the end.

The fare is worked out from a published tariff: a base fare covering the first kilometre, a rate per kilometre after that, and a minimum fare. Late at night a night multiplier applies, and in a busy area a surge multiplier may apply — both are shown as their own line on the receipt. You see the exact total before you book, not an estimate or a range.

Gamana takes no commission from drivers, so the fare never had a platform cut built into it. Drivers pay a flat seat fee for access instead. Whether a given trip is cheaper depends on the tariff and the time of day, but the fare you are shown is the fare you pay.

You need a valid driving licence for your vehicle class and current insurance covering passengers. Photograph each in the driver app. A police clearance report is also required, and there is a grace period after approval to obtain one, because it takes weeks to get. A person reviews applications, usually within two working days, and there is a free trial period from the day you are approved.

Gamana is opening one area at a time, starting in the Western Province and the East. A rideshare only works where enough drivers are online in the same place, so areas open when there are enough drivers there rather than all at once. Ask for early access and tell us where you are.

Yes. Scheduled rides let you book ahead, and the trip is arranged before you need it. Airport runs can also be quoted as a fixed fare, which skips both surge and the night multiplier so the price agreed days earlier is the price charged.

Every driver is verified before their first trip — identity, licence and insurance are reviewed by a person, and a police clearance report is required. Every trip has an emergency button that reaches our operations team with your live location, and you can call or message your driver without either of you seeing the other’s number. If you are ever in immediate danger, call 119 first.

Not yet. Gamana is Android only while it is in testing.

Yes. Both apps are fully available in Sinhala, Tamil and English, and you can change the language on the sign-in screen before you have an account. The code we text you and the notifications you receive arrive in the language you chose.
